The object of the competition is for swimmers to compete against their own times on a regular basis under competition conditions. This will allow them to challenge for places in teams and prepare them for competition. They will be gaining experience of the distances that are part of the national qualifying programme. Points are scored for any improvements gained and are aggregated for the purpose of making periodic and annual awards. The competition is called Points Score and is open to all members of the club.
The competition is split into three groups, BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD /PLATINUM and promotion between groups is gained by achieving qualifying times. We will use the ASA Competitive Swimming Performance Award (CSPA) system which was developed in conjunction with the British Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association. Times are set for different levels for each stroke and distance.
Swimmers who are new to the club will be allocated a group by using all known personal best times (Pb’s) recorded at any gala in the previous year. Swimmers with no known recorded times will start in the Bronze group.
Each gala should last around 2 hours on a Thursday evening starting at 7pm.
Each group has its own programme of events – see the events calendar for details and dates.
Group Bronze 25m all strokes + 50m freestyle, backstroke & Breaststroke + 100m individual medley
Promotion to Silver group is gained by achieving Bronze CSPA award in 25metres freestyle and two other events.
Group Silver 50m all strokes + 100m all strokes + 200m all strokes including Individual medley.
Promotion to Group 3 is gained by achieving Silver CSPA award in 50metres freestyle and two other events. (9yr olds cannot swim 100m events)
Group Gold 50m freestyle + 100m all strokes (omitting 100mIM) + 200m all strokes including individual medley
Swimmers will aim to achieve the Gold CSPA award. Five gold times must be achieved to enter Group Platinum where swimmers will improve their grade on the national grading table.

There will be a charge of £2 per gala, or £10 for the year if you pay in January. Amanda Raine collects entries and entry fees for internal galas on a Thursday evening between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
To ensure the efficient running of the programme swimmers are requested to enter selections for the next gala during the four weeks immediately following a gala (five weeks if the closing date falls in the summer break). It is your responsibility to make sure your entries are in on time. You can email your entries to Amanda Raine via the contacts page using the gala entries link but they must be received by 9.00p.m on the closing date. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED.
For details of gala dates, closing dates and the programme of events see the events calendar.
