Ponds Forge

Built for the World Student Games of 1991, Ponds Forge has proved itself to be one of the finest pools in the world. Numerous world records have been set in the Sheffield pool since it was built nearly 20 years ago and it’s considered to be one of the fastest facilities in the country.

Ponds Forge is regularly used for the biggest meets in the UK and we’re fortunate to have it so close. Both Yorkshire and North East Championships are often held here along with pretty much every open meet that can be squeezed in.

Facilities

Ponds Forge is one of the most popular venues in European swimming, it offers:

  • 50m x 25m (10 lanes) Competition pool with moving booms catering for short course and long course competition
  • Full Electronic timing and Score Board
  • Extensive spectator gallery with room for 2,600
  • Cafe
  • Licensed Bar on-site
  • Car park with very limited space
  • Diving pit to use as swim down facility

Additional Information

Ponds Forge is well known for being oppressively hot.  It is recommended that swimmers take plenty of drinks or performances will be affected during the afternoon.  Coaches have been seen arriving with 5l bottles of water to last them through each day!

Food can be purchased on site but the food area gets very busy.  If you turn left after leaving the front entrance a bakery and sandwich shop are both within a short walking distance.

Parking

There is an on-site car park but this fills very early.  The best place to park is probably the Q-Park which is just to the side of Ponds Forge (max vehicle height = 2m). The entrance is somewhat concealed as it is an automated roller shutter door just past the left hand side of Travel Lodge.  Details can be found here, but if unclear it may be prudent to discuss with one of the other parents attending.

A discount voucher can be obtained from the Ponds Forge reception during the meet to reduce the cost at the pay meter.
