Diversity & Disability

Back in 2023 Swim England had a 10-year strategy it was called ‘Access Aquatics’.

Their mission was to improve health and success in our nation by ensuring we had swimming for everyone.

Swim England wants to remove barriers experienced by people within our communities empowering us all to take on and improve inequalities.

As a club, we all have the opportunity to contribute to this pledge.

Having a firm action plan in place to address diversity, equality and inclusion means we could increase in the amount of under-represented groups.

Sport Equality is all about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to fix. It’s changing culture and the structure in sport, becoming equally accessible to all members of society, whatever their age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or socio-economic status. Halifax Swimming Club follow this mission and we indeed have over the past few years made headway into having diversity within our swimming lessons.

It is responsible for ensuring that no job applicant, employee, volunteer, member, service user or person within its jurisdiction (together ‘Stakeholders’) are unlawfully discriminated against because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation (together the ‘Protected Characteristics under the Equality Act 2010’) or any other irrelevant characteristic".

Like Swim England, the Club considers that swimming should be a ‘sport for all;’ on that can and should be made accessible to everyone, to the greatest extent possible.

The Club is committed to ensuring that everyone has the right to enjoy sport in an environment free from threat of discrimination, intimidation, harassment and abuse.

All members of the Club (and parents of junior members of the Club) have a responsibility to challenge discriminatory behaviour and to promote equality of opportunity.

The Club will deal with any incidents of discriminatory behaviour seriously, in accordance with its disciplinary proceedures.
